Currently based out of his Revolver Recordings studios in Thousand Oaks, CA, British producer, songwriter, engineer, and mixer Mikal Blue has had a successful track record of finding and developing talent over his career. He has played a direct role in developing artists including Augustana, OneRepublic, Colbie Caillat, Angel Taylor, and Kevin Hammond.
In 2007 he produced, engineered, and mixed Caillat’s debut album Coco (Universal Republic), which would go on to break her career and certify twice platinum. Blue also co-wrote several songs on the album including the second single, “Realize,” marking the beginning of a fruitful writing partnership. Tracks co-written by Blue can be heard on Caillat’s follow up albums Breakthrough and All of You (Universal Republic).
Blue continues to balance cultivating new talent together with working with established artists. In recent years he has produced, engineered, and mixed albums or songs for Jason Reeves, Keaton Simons, The Weepies, YouTube star Alex G, and Five for Fighting. Toad the Wet Sprocket tapped him to produce, engineer, and mix their reunion album New Constellation, which ultimately raised over $250,000 on Kickstarter.
In 2015, Blue returned to work with Toad the Wet Sprocket to mix and produce two new songs for their Architect of the Ruin EP. He remained busy with a number of eclectic projects including producing actress/singer Rita Wilson, and developing pop rock band New Hollow whose debut single "Jiffy Jane" (Epic) was co-written, produced, and mixed by Mikal. He also co-wrote three songs on NBC "The Voice" winner Danielle Bradbery's forthcoming album (Big Machine). In 2016, Mikal developed "The Voice" winner and artist Sawyer Frederick for Universal Republic, producing and mixing 8 songs for his album A Good Storm including several co-writes, as well as producing the title track "Hurricane" for "American Idol" winner Nick Fradiani's album Hurricane (Dot Records/Big Machine), and co-writing two tracks "Gypsy Heart" and "Now" for Colbie Caillat's latest album The Malibu Sessions.
Most recently he has continued to develop the next generation of talent, co-producing the single "Down" for rising PRMD star Buster Moe, co-producing and co-mixing Alex & Sierra's As Seen On TV EP, and co-producing and co-mixing The Girl & The Dreamcatcher's single "Gladiator". In addition to his production work, Mikal oversees a roster of writers out of his Revolver Studios who regularly write for synch and placement.
