Ryan Hewitt



Ryan Hewitt is a Grammy winning engineer, mixer and producer who has worked with artists including The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Avett Brothers, Blink-182, The Dixie Chicks, needtobreathe, Flogging Molly and Jamie Cullum.

Ryan is the son of famed remote recording engineer David Hewitt. He spent his youth in small clubs, large arenas, and traveling the world recording live albums and doing broadcast audio. He later earned a degree in Electrical Engineering at Tufts University in Boston, where he also ran the campus sound company. After moving to New York City and working at Sony Music Studios, Ryan took to Los Angeles where began work at Cello Studios (now EastWest Studios). There, he began working with he Red Hot Chili Peppers and Rick Rubin and developed a close working relationship with guitarist John Frusciante. Ryan went on to record and mix eight solo albums with Frusciante. He also would engineer and mix the Peppers’ multiple-Grammy-winning double album, Stadium Arcadium. Ryan continues to work with Rick Rubin, and the two have collaborated on projects including Angus and Julia Stone, Brandi Carlile, Lady Gaga and Johnny Cash, as well as three albums and three live DVDs for The Avett Brothers.

In 2015, Ryan relocated from Los Angeles to Nashville, where he took residence at the House of Blues Studios in Berry Hill and jumped into a non-stop string of records. Between mixing albums for The Avett Brothers, Third Eye Blind, Sean McConnell, and Harry Connick, Jr., Ryan also produced and mixed up-and-coming Georgia rockers, Crass Mammoth, Knoxville troubadours, The Black Lillies and Nashville mods Elle Macho. He went on to record The Lumineers’ #1 album Cleopatra with producer Simone Felice in upstate New York - mixing the album in Nashville - and has since recorded and mixed multiple songs for film soundtracks.

2017 was a busy year for Ryan. He mixed and engineered Americana-pop artist Christian Lopez's Red Arrow (Blaster Records); mixed the Dixie Chicks' MMXVI In Concert and Rivers & Rusts' Welcome To The Show (Tennessee Recording Company); produced, engineered and mixed Peace's forthcoming album (Sony UK); recorded David Rhodes' forthcoming album; and produced, engineered and mixed the highly anticipated Turnpike Troubadours' newest album A Long Way from Your Heart (Bossier City).

Ryan also mixed and engineered "I'm With You" from Vance Joy's highly anticipated third album Nation of Two (Atlantic).
