Today, the Recording Academy is hosting #GRAMMYsOnTheHill in Washington D.C. to support the rights of music creators. The Fair Play Fair Pay Act has been reintroduced, and would establish a public performance right for sound recordings on terrestrial radio. In practice, this would allow for record producers, mixers, artists and labels to receive royalties for radio plays. Currently, Radio is “the only business in America that can use another’s property without permission or compensation” – Daryl Friedman, The Recording Academy.
