Shelby Lynne and Allison Moorer’s long-awaited joint album “Not Dark Yet” has been released today via Silver Cross/Thirty Tigers. The album gets its title from a cut on Bob Dylan’s “Time Out of Mind LP”, was produced by Teddy Thompson, recorded in Los Angeles last summer, and mixed by GPS client Mark Howard.
The duo wrap their soulful familial harmonies around an eclectic collection of song choices by writers and artists ranging from country legends – the Louvin Brothers, Merle Haggard, Jessi Colter – to Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain, the Killers and Nick Cave. With 24 albums between them, this is the first time that Shelby Lynne & Allison Moorer have collaborated on an album.
“Not Dark Yet” is a highlight and an album whose collaborative spirit is rooted in a shared desire to push, with the utmost grace, against confining musical categories. The female perspective has done you right again.” – Anne Powers of NPR
