13 Mar The Raconteurs – Mixing by Vance Powell
The Raconteurs are wrapping up the long-awaited follow-up to 2008?s Consolers Of The Lonely (Third Man Records), and are currently mixing it with GPS client Vance Powell at his Sputnik Sound Studios in Nashville, TN. In an Instagram video, Jack White demonstrates a unique technique developed for mixing and mastering mixes. Powell’s mix is broadcast directly from the studio through an FM transmitter to White’s car, where the band sits, listens and sends back real-time notes via walkie-talkie.
“This way the artist can mix in real time, and hear exactly?what the song sounds like on the radio as well. This speeds up the process of mixing and greatly and reduces the amount of remixes that occur after artists feel they?ve ?got it? in the studio, only to listen in the car on the ride home realizing that the kick drum is too loud!” says White.
Powell and White mixed Consolers Of The Lonely In 2008 and won The Raconteurs a Grammy for ‘Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical). The new album is expected to be released later this year. See the video and process below:
